We believe…

We believe in the timeless power and beauty of the human voice.

We believe that time—the ultimate denominator of our human experience—is meant for more than Netflix and doomscrolling.

We believe that we discover, renew, and grow our humanity through the arts of singing and storytelling—and that renewal matters more now than ever before.

…therefore we sing.

SOUND OF AGES emerged from a personal epiphany. Founder and Artistic Director Kameron Kavanaugh recalls his first encounter with a Renaissance vocal masterwork by the Frenco-Flemish composer Guillaume DuFay.

“It was a run-of-the-mill kind of day in grad school when I donned a pair of headphones. But after listening to the first few minutes of Nuper Rosarum Flores, everything changed for me, musically and otherwise. It was like finding myself inside of some kind of dark, cosmic cathedral when, all of the sudden, all of the lights of the universe burst through the stained glass windows.

“I heard something that was not only glorious but also primal. It surprised me that a piece of music so ‘old’ could also sound so astonishingly modern. I sensed, for the first time, that music can not only transcend time but also connect us to a broader human story.

“Not only did I want to experience this kind of magic again and again for myself, but I wanted to offer it to others. And so Sound of Ages was born: a world-class, professional chamber choir in the heart of the Intermountain West. At first, I envisioned a mission of bringing Renaissance music ‘out of the museum.’ But, over time, I realized that it wasn’t just one type or era of music that mattered, but instead that our currency would be transcendent human connection through great music.”

Since its founding in 2017, Sound of Ages has explored the timeless power of the human voice through performance, teaching, and recording, seeking to create experiences of transcendent human connection. In addition to offering conventional choral music concerts, Sound of Ages has innovated “narrative concerts” that combine world-class ensemble singing with inventive storytelling to draw new audiences to the art form while simultaneously challenging its boundaries. Sound of Ages has performed at State, Regional, and National conferences of the American Choral Directors Association as well as well as at Carnegie Hall.

Originality consists of returning to the origin. Thus, originality means returning, through one's resources, to the simplicity of the early solutions.
